Facebook Will Force Android, iOS Users to Use Messenger App This Week

Facebook is forcing users to make this switch because of the positive results from doing so in Europe

Android and iOS Facebook users will have to start using the separate Messenger app for their FB messages, according to TechCrunch. 

 

Facebook said it would stop allowing both iOS and Android users from using the messages tab in its main iPhone and Android apps, instead redirecting users to the standalone Messenger app.

 

The Messenger app is Facebook's hub for everything related to messages. It allows users to send messages, photos, group messages, videos, stickers and audio clips. 

 

According to Facebook, it's forcing users to make this switch because of the positive results it saw after pushing European Facebook users to do the same. The company said users send more data on Messenger, and that people on Messenger reply about 20 percent faster.

 

“In the next few days, we’re continuing to notify more people that if they want to send and receive Facebook messages, they’ll need to download the Messenger app," said Facebook in a statement.

"As we’ve said, our goal is to focus development efforts on making Messenger the best mobile messaging experience possible and avoid the confusion of having separate Facebook mobile messaging experiences."

User opinions could go either way on this, either liking the added features in Messenger or complaining that they don't want two different Facebook apps. 

If you're a mobile web, Windows Phone, iPad, feature phone, Paper, or desktop user, you can get away with not switching to the Messenger app... for now. -
